Scholarship Benefits
The VU Amsterdam if granted, covers tuition fees of the beneficiaries.
The VU Amsterdam Fellowship Programme combines with NL Scholarships to contribute towards the costs of living costs – 5.000 EUR or 10.000 EUR for one year. The NL Scholarship is awarded only for the first year of a beneficiary’s study programme.

Eligibility Requirements
For you to be considered for this fellowship programme, you must:
- old a non- EU/ EEA passport and you are not eligible for the lower tuition fee.
- Not have the Dutch nationality.
- Prove your academic excellence (GPA equivalent to a Dutch 8).
- Have been conditionally or unconditionally admitted to the first year of a full-time English-taught Master’s programme at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam starting per September 2024.
- Ensure that you are seeking admission into a degree that has not been obtained in the Netherlands.
- Ensure that you do not need to complete a preparatory programme before the start of your Master.
Application Procedure
Application is made in two steps:
Step 1:
Register for a Master’s programme between 1 October and 1 December, 2023. Registration for the Master’s programme is through the studielink and after that in your personal dashboard on vu.nl. Find more information on how to apply for one of the English-taught Master’s programmes on the official website provided below.
Step 2:
Submit your VU Fellowship Programme application in your personal VU dashboard between 1 November 2023 and 1 February 2024. Kindly note that you can apply for the VUFP only for one master programme. Ensure you upload all the necessary documents.
To apply you will have to fill out the designated form and at the end of it paste the GPA proof/ programme transcript and a grading scale explanation. Once done, save it as a one file in PDF format and upload it in the Scholarship section of your personal dashboard on vu.nl located on the Complete Registration page.
After the application the decision committee will decide and send email to all applicants informing them of their decision by mid-March 2024 (6 weeks after the application deadline).
Selected candidates are to accept or decline the VUFP and NL Scholarship offer in their personal VU dashboard by end of March 2024 (2 weeks after the results have been published).
Application Deadline
- 1 December 2023 for registration of Master’s degree programme.
- 1 February 2024 for application for the VU Amsterdam Fellowship Programme.
